Me with Joanna Bradley, my friend and beloved editor of Saffron Cross

Last week, I wrote on Impostor’s Syndrome, a phenomenon that creeps into our professional lives when things are going well.

The day I published that post, I received an email from my publisher stating that my first book, Saffron Cross, had won a USA Best Book Award 2014 from USA Book News, coming in as a finalist in the Religion/Christianity category.

Friends: life’s lessons are repeated until learned.

It was another test; another opportunity to appreciate and accept that things were going well, without my having to jump in and deflate it. I caught myself saying: “They made a mistake. I really didn’t win that award. What a fluke!”

Dealing with Impostor Syndrome is just one of many obstacles that keeps me from being the prolific writer I want to be.

So, no more.

I’m going to accept this genuine recognition, not for me, but what it means for the bigger picture of interfaith marriage. This is another important step toward spreading peace and understanding one another’s approaches toward God. I’m proud of Fresh Air Books (an imprint of Upper Room Books), and the risk they took in publishing this edgy project. They worked tirelessly to make it happen, and they deserve these kudos.

No impostors here.

Join me in celebrating! Thank you for your continued love of and support for Saffron Cross-and thank you for tolerating me.
